Challenge

HSBC Asia Pacific Singing Contest 2024 celebrated unity and cultural pride among employees across the region. The photography brief required both press-style coverage and visually creative imagery under a concert-like lighting setup.The team faced dynamic laser lighting, strict no-flash restrictions on stage, and an extremely tight turnaround — 30 selected photos delivered within 24 hours for senior management’s LinkedIn release.

Approach

To ensure seamless coverage, three photographers were deployed:

Two assigned inside the concert hall for stage, audience, and performer shots.
One stationed at the registration booth for guest arrival, branding, and behind-the-scenes moments.

Key techniques:

Coordination with video crew through intercom to avoid shot overlap.
Multi-camera setup using Nikon D850 and Canon 5D Mark IV with 16–35 mm, 24–70 mm, 70–200 mm, and 300 mm lenses.
Star-shape lens filters used on telephoto glass to enhance stage light effects.
High-ISO shooting with denoise workflow in post to maintain clarity.
Planned shooting zones for VIP arrivals and contest highlights using burst mode for decisive moments.

Results / Style

The final images conveyed corporate pride, emotion, and team unity, blending the vibrancy of a live concert with the authenticity of a staff celebration. Wide-angle crowd photos captured the energy of over 1,000 participants, while telephoto shots highlighted singers and dancers beneath HSBC’s signature red branding glow. Color grading emphasized vibrant tones for performances and natural looks for makeup and registration, ensuring visual balance across all scenes.

The first 30 photos were delivered within a single day, enabling HSBC’s communications team to post immediately online. The complete gallery of 600 retouched 24 MP images followed within seven days via internal drive.
